ECG Report with Artefact

We often get asked about problems with ECG interference and it is almost always due to an external factor. Here are some handy tips to rectify "noise" on ECG traces;

  • Make sure you are using genuine Welch Allyn/Hillrom resting tab electrodes. They feature a higher grade conductive gel resulting in better performance
  • Electrodes must be within date and kept in a sealed foil pouch and stored in a cool place away from sunlight. The conductive gel will expire over time and will dry out quickly if not stored carefully
  • Electrode adaptors can build up residue from the electrodes over time in the alligator clip and should be cleaned with alcohol on a regular basis
  • Make sure you have any AC, Muscle and Baseline filters turned on
  • Avoid electrical interference from devices such as examination couches and fridges by not sitting the lead wires near them
