We often get asked about problems with ECG interference and it is almost always due to an external factor. Here are some handy tips to rectify "noise" on ECG traces;
- Make sure you are using genuine Welch Allyn/Hillrom resting tab electrodes. They feature a higher grade conductive gel resulting in better performance
- Electrodes must be within date and kept in a sealed foil pouch and stored in a cool place away from sunlight. The conductive gel will expire over time and will dry out quickly if not stored carefully
- Electrode adaptors can build up residue from the electrodes over time in the alligator clip and should be cleaned with alcohol on a regular basis
- Make sure you have any AC, Muscle and Baseline filters turned on
- Avoid electrical interference from devices such as examination couches and fridges by not sitting the lead wires near them
